WSSA conferences provide training, networking and support opportunities for sheriffs in our 16-state region of the western united states and beyond. They are open to members and non-members, sheriffs, command staff and retirees. Each conference supports our mission to assist sheriffs and their offices with federal and state legislative issues, address policy and procedural matters, develop guidelines to promote uniformity in matters that are important to sheriffs of the western United States and to work together to keep the office of the sheriff strong.

Uniting for Bigger Causes

Coming together in unity also enables us to support some worthy causes like the Man Up Crusade and Special Olympics.

Western States Sheriffs support the Man-Up crusade to reduce domestic violence in society and contribute to social change by promoting safe and healthy relationships through education, advocacy and funding community services and programs that share in our mission. Why purple? Families of victims have adopted the purple ribbon to remember and honor their loved ones who have lost their lives at the hands of a person they once loved and trusted. Shelters and local battered women’s programs use the purple ribbon to raise awareness about the crime of domestic violence in their communities. In addition to the demonstration of support for victims and advocates, the display of purple ribbons throughout a community conveys a powerful message that there is no place for domestic violence in the homes, neighborhoods, workplaces or schools of its citizens.

Western States Sheriffs plunge in support of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. It wasn’t exactly a “polar plunge,” but the water was plenty chilly!

We hope to see you at the 2019 Winter Conference as we address important issues such as the legalization of marijuana, mental health concerns, and training specific to detention facilities.
